| Team-MP3 Home / MP3 Players / Freeamp Review |
FreeAmp is an extensible, freeware, open-source, cross-platform audio player. It features an optimized version of the GPLed Xing MPEG decoder which makes it one of the fastest and best sounding players available. Just for grins, I fired it up on the 3rd box (a 486/133) and FreeAmp played flawlessly - something WinAmp and most other players won't do. FreeAmp will also play ShoutCast audio streams! Not only can it play them, it goes one better than WinAmp, by allowing you to buffer the stream to disk - which means no more skips and you can buffer a tad bit better quality sound than your modem can dl and playback at the same time. If you have a full time net connection, you can dl an entire broadcast while you sleep for clean playback during the day :-) FreeAmp provides a number of the most common features users have come to expect in a clean, easy to use interface:
Linux faithful should check the homepage before downloading - development is running fast and furious!
