 Napster Advanced Search Options
If you click on the advanced button on the Napster search screen. You will be shown a new set of options off
to the right:
These advanced options control which files are listed in search results. By using the advanced options you can control which
results are returned.
- Bitrate: This is indicative of the quality of the mp3. A higher bit rate means that the mp3 must have been recorded at a higher bitrate. Bitrate is how much information the mp3 contains, or how often the sound was sampled from the source when recorded.
- Ping Time: When you download files from Napster, you are actually connecting direct with another user. Ping time is how long it takes for a little bit of data to bounce from your system, to the other guys system and back. By specifying a lower ping time, it usually means the file with transfer faster.
- Connection: Simple, how high a line speed does the user have to have in order to show in results.
- Ping Results?: Check this box if you want to ping each of the users returned. The lower the ping time, the faster the data will flow between you and the user. Checking this box will slow down searching a great deal as each of up to 100 compters is pinged.
- Frequency: The range at which the mp3 was recorded. Higher frequency means a higher quality mp3. This option is only available in older versions of Napster.
